About this treatment
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in our body, in the skin, the joints and the connective tissue. It can hold up to a thousand times its own weight in water. As a filler, a gel of cross-linked hyaluronic acid is used that gives structure and volume where it is injected. Because it is a substance the body knows, it is well tolerated.
What does the treatment involve?
The doctor starts with a thorough analysis of your face at rest and in movement. Based on your goals, such as restoring volume, lip enhancement, contour improvement or softening folds, the doctor draws up a personal plan. With carefully placed injections, the doctor applies a clear gel. The treatment is generally comfortable. The session takes 10 to 20 minutes and the result is visible immediately.
Which areas can be treated?
Hyaluronic acid is versatile. The most treated areas are the lips, the tear trough, the cheekbones and midface, the jawline and chin, the nasolabial fold and fine lines. If you also want to improve overall skin quality, skinboosters are a fine addition.
How long does the result last?
The result lasts 9 to 12 months on average, depending on the area, the product and your metabolism. Lips usually break down slightly faster than the jawline or cheekbones. A maintenance treatment keeps the result in place.
Is the treatment reversible?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down the filler within 24 to 48 hours. That makes the treatment fully reversible, which gives extra reassurance.
