About this treatment
What is a Photofacial (IPL)?
A photofacial works with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): gentle light pulses that release their energy in a highly targeted way. On pigment spots, the light targets melanin and the spots fade gradually. On couperose and redness, it heats the small blood vessels so they close and the redness fades. This improves both your complexion and your skin texture.
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment itself takes 20 to 30 minutes. After thorough cleansing we apply a cooling gel and protect your eyes; the IPL handpiece then glides calmly over the area. Pigment spots often respond faster than couperose and rosacea, which usually need several sessions; we determine the number of sessions together. Afterwards the skin may feel slightly red, but this usually fades quickly and you can carry on with your day.
Which skin concerns?
The photofacial is ideal for couperose and rosacea redness, pigment and age spots, sun damage and visible blood vessels. Besides the face, we also treat areas such as the neck, décolleté, arms and hands, where sun damage and pigment spots often stand out. For stubborn pigmentation such as melasma, the Picoplus laser is often the better choice; we discuss this together during your consultation.
